The Story of Bobby the Bear

Updated: Oct 21

Group picture from a meeting at AIMS (Aberdeen Independent Multiple Sclerosis), where Sandra holds Bobby the bear, posing for a picture.

During one of our first post-lockdown meetups in the strange days of Covid, I was given a truly special gift. Agneta, the daughter of one of our service users, presented me with a Hero Bear as a thank-you to AIMS for regularly calling her mother during lockdown to check in and stay connected.

Fully kitted out in our AIMS colours, green and purple, he was a handsome little chap! We christened him Bobby, and he’s now our proud AIMS mascot.

I was really touched by such a lovely gesture.  It reminded me just how important staying connected is, especially for those with limited mobility. At a time when even seeing family wasn’t possible, it really brought home how powerful the little things can be: a warm hello, a quick phone call, a helping hand.

Sometimes, it’s the smallest acts of kindness that make the biggest difference.
