In this month's spotlight, we chat with Clark about how his favourite hobbies help him navigate life with myotonic dystrophy.

For Clark, one of our valued community members, staying connected to his passions has been a vital part of his journey. While living with myotonic dystrophy brings its own set of challenges, such as muscle weakness and myotonia, which can make simple tasks like releasing a door knob difficult, Clark has found that his interests provide both a sense of purpose and a daily boost to his well-being.
In addition to attending our weekly exercise classes at Westhill, Clark keeps himself busy with a wide range of hobbies and interests, among them a passion for cars, playing and teaching chess to young people and building Lego models.
“Building Lego models is therapeutic, it helps me to relax and challenges me both mentally and physically, the small pieces and intricate assembly helps to keep my fingers and hands flexible and mobile. The sense of satisfaction and achievement it gives me is also great for my mental health. I try to do some Lego every day, taking it a small step at a time, so patience is also a virtue!"
We are grateful to Clark for contributing his insights on his personal passions, offering our readers a wonderful glimpse into staying active and engaged while living with myotonic dystrophy.
